Intermediate Project Engineer

    We are focussed on the science and technology that produces abundant, affordable RNG-based fuels while removing carbon from the atmosphere and are developing new ways to turn biomass into transportation fuels while using existing refinery infrastructure to do it.

    The Role

    We have an immediate opportunity for a dedicated individual to join us as an Intermediate Project Engineer, reporting to the VP Project Development.  

    This is a permanent, full-time role, based in our Ottawa office, with a requirement to work from the office up to 5 days a week during various prolonged project planning and construction phases.  When project deliverables allow and with the approval of the VP Project Development, you will work in our Ottawa office a minimum of two days a week and can work remotely from home the remainder of the time.  Working remotely will require you to have reliable internet access and a home office that provides for a productive, professional and safe work environment during regular working hours.  To be successful in this role and in a hybrid work environment, you will need to be a proactive communicator, be a self-starter and have strong time management and organizational skills.

    Job Responsibilities

    The primary role of the project engineer is to work as part of the project development and/or construction management teams to drive the development and construction of renewable energy projects.  The intermediate project engineer will perform a variety of tasks which may include project management tasks, feasibility level evaluations of equipment and process configurations, capital cost estimating, planning and contractor management.  

    • Assist the VP Project Development and other iogen staff and contractors with the delivery of small to medium projects in iogen’s facilities in Ottawa.  The successful applicant will play a central role in the delivery of these projects.
    • Assist the VP Project Development with the development of large renewable energy projects that iogen is pursuing.  The successful candidate will play a supporting role in large project development and delivery.
      • Conduct feasibility assessments, technical evaluations and economic models
      • Support the final selection of projects that align with the organizational strategy
    • Carry out project management tasks such as planning, cost estimating, reporting, contractor selection and contract management associated with the development and construction of renewable energy projects.
      • Identify and monitor project gates and approvals

      • Plan, monitor and report on project schedules and critical activities

      • Conduct cost estimating

      • Identify, select and oversee qualified contractors

      • Identify, mitigate, monitor and report on project risks

      • Support and monitor key internal project team interfaces, ensuring important information transfer across multiple teams

    • Represent iogen’s interests in dealings with customers, clients, sub-contractors, or suppliers
      • Oversee contract management per iogen’s procedures
      • Act as a technical support and back-up to the project development team
      • Identify and recommend improvements to internal processes
      • Contribute to internal technical innovation programs
    • Assist the VP Project Development with the day-to-day operations of iogen's corporate Project Development team by tracking, reporting and ensuring departmental tasks and activities are on schedule and properly documented.

    Qualifications·      

    • University degree in engineering or other relevant discipline    
    • Professional Engineering designation or certification preferred    
    • 5+ years of experience in a project engineering/management function for capital projects
    • Project management professional certification through the Project Management Institute is preferred
    • Renewable natural gas and/or anaerobic digestion experience would be considered an asset

    Administrative Assistant

      The RoleWe have an immediate opportunity for a dedicated individual to join us as an Administrative Assistant with reception duties, reporting to the Senior Law Clerk.  This is a permanent, full-time role.  You will work in our Ottawa office, 5 days a week.

      Job Responsibilities

      As an Administrative Assistant with reception duties, you will be responsible for the smooth day-to-day functioning of the office, providing an effective and efficient level of service to iogen visitors and personnel, and to ensure their business needs and requirements are met in a welcoming and professional environment.  Duties include:  

      • Supports day-to-day office operations and provides a positive first impression by greeting visitors in-person, by phone or virtually, responding to basic inquiries and forwarding to the appropriate iogen colleague.
      • Administer and monitor the employee and visitor lobby management software at the front desk
      • Coordinates conference room bookings. Acts as first point of contact for these spaces for employees and external visitors
      • Prepare and sign for courier shipments, sort and distribute incoming mail in a timely manner
      • Provide administrative support to the Technology and Innovation team, including scheduling team meetings, taking meeting notes and tracking actions
      • Prepare monthly reports and support administrative tasks for iogen’s Health, Safety and Environmental programs
      • Maintain the training database
      • Support members of the management team with various administrative tasks including travel and preparation of expense reports
      • Coordinate office contracts, including coffee service, photocopiers, office supplies
      • Maintain cleanliness of reception, lunchroom, media room, and meeting rooms
      • Completes other administrative duties or special projects as requested by the Senior Law Clerk

      Qualifications      

      • Completion of a post-secondary diploma in an office/clerical specialization or equivalent experience    
      • 2 – 4 years of experience in an office environment is preferred    
      • Strong organization skills with high attention to detail and ability to be flexible
      • Ability to remain positive and professional within a small team environment
      • Ability and interest in learning new skills and knowledge
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
      • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel charts
      • Familiarity with Health, Safety and Environmental regulations is an asset
