Research Associate Chemist

Iogen is uniquely positioned to win the Net Zero energy transition with transformative bioenergy technology.  We have been a leader in low-carbon fuels for more than 35 years, always on the exciting edge of development.

We are focussed on the science and technology that produces abundant, affordable RNG-based fuels while removing carbon from the atmosphere and are developing new ways to turn biomass into transportation fuels while using existing refinery infrastructure to do it.

We are excited about the future and are looking for highly motivated people with a strong technical background, a positive attitude and demonstrated initiative to join our team.

The Role

We have an immediate opportunity for a dedicated individual to join us as a Research Associate Chemist, reporting to the Staff Scientist Manager. This is a permanent, full-time role. You will work in our Ottawa office five days a week.

Job Responsibilities·      

  • Conduct, analyze, and troubleshoot laboratory experiments, primarily working with lignocellulosic materials·      
  • Perform routine and non-routine quantitative analyses using a variety of analytical instruments and laboratory assays·      
  • Critically analyze data and report results to the research team·      
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies·      
  • Review literature on relevant topics and suggest possible approaches and analytical techniques related to the project goals

Qualifications·      

  • M.Sc. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or B.Sc. with 2 years relevant experience in a chemistry role·  
  • Strong problem-solving skills and aptitude for critical analysis·      
  • Laboratory experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining analytical and spectroscopic equipment such as HPLC, UV-Vis, FTIR and EA·      
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal·      
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing corporate focuses and industry dynamics, being flexible and efficient in the fast-paced industry environment·      
  • Experience with anaerobic digestion an asset·    
  • Process modeling experience an asset

Work Environment·      

  • 70% laboratory work and 30% desk-based tasks·      
  • Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and/or weekend duties to support research projects·
  • Standing and walking for extended periods·      
  • Occasional heavy lifting such as moving reactors and gas cylinders
